"If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking!"

My name is Dr. TJ Klein and teach 5th grade at Daegu Elementary School (DES) in Daegu, South Korea. It is an amazing honor to serve as an educator of military students, especially overseas. Education is one of my passions and I strive to uniquely educate each student. General George Patton said, "If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking!" What is right and works for one student, does not work for another. Each day has a new set of challenges and blessings!
My education
- Ed.D in Educational Administration
- MAED in Elementary Education
- BS in Management
- AAS in Meteorology
- AA in General Education
My experience in Education
Over the years, I have been blessed to teach all grades Kindergarten through Eighth to include middle school science, physical education, and unique self-contained settings; certified teaching since 2004 in Michigan (public and charter), Arizona (public), South Carolina (Ft. Jackson - DoDEA), and Korea (Daegu Elementary School - DoDEA).
Specifically, taught Middle School Science (Grades 7 and 8) and Physical Education (K-8) and individual grades (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th). Licensed in Administration, Elementary Education, and Structured English Immersion (SEI).
My journey even took me into the field of higher education as I left the classroom for two years and counseled educational administration (certified teachers that had aspirations to become principals) graduate students within the College of Education at the University of Phoenix (main campus) in Phoenix, Arizona. Even though I loved the experience, my heart simply missed teaching. The rest is history!

Classroom Management Style
As a parent, it is vital that a parent know what type of classroom that your child will be in for the school year. My classroom is one of accountability, structure, middle school preparation, humor, consistency, proactive communication, individuality, and genuine care for each student. Each child is treated like I would my own children. They are praised when they make good choices and are held accountable when they make poor choices. Parents are notified on a daily basis of all classwork, homework, and announcements that occur within the classroom. Rest assured, your child is safe in my classroom both physically and emotionally.
My family
My beautiful wife and I have five uniquely amazing children. I am originally from Flint, Michigan, spent the first five years of my life in England, lived in Michigan from age 5 to age 20, and lived extensively in Arizona, South Carolina, and several other overseas locations. These varying experiences help me to understand the military child and the challenges that come with living in a military family. Four of my five children attended schools within the DoDEA system (stateside and overseas).
Our lives are blessedly consumed by homeschooling our two youngest children, men's and women's ministry, volunteer work within the local community, and educational mission work in Cambodia (usually over Christmas break). Our family is evenly divided between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions (Shhhhh...don't tell my wife, but GO LIONS!!!). Our summers are spent primarily in Texas. We love the Daegu area and try to see as much of it as possible.
As a family, we have either lived in or visited the following countries: United States, Mexico, Canada, China, Bahamas, Germany, France, Netherlands, England, Czech Republic, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Haiti, Singapore, Australia, Guam, and Cambodia.
In other words, I understand your challenges because I have lived those very same challenges, within my own family.
